  1. Wow, we are here aren’t we fellas.

We have reached the edge of the cliff and it feels to me like we are looking down hoping to find a soft landing point in order to just break a few bones as opposed to being a fatal leap.

So, what do I expect? Appeals 1 and sanction 2 see us end up with the magical 10 or even the 12 points deducted that the PL always wanted. But we stay up this season.

We somehow financially crawl through enough of this season to have us put into administration during the closed season.

We get a 9 point deduction for administration.

We get a half decent new owner who can afford the cost of our club in administration and we start the new season with a 9 point deduction. How we then get through our last season at Goodison with no squad to talk of, possibly a transfer ban to accompany the post administration takeover is beyond me. I can’t begin to imagine what EFC – The team would look like.

We still haven’t moved into that new stadium, sitting there all shiny but very empty (that is utterly crazy), and once again face the very real propsect of it being opened as the best ground in the Championship.

How on earth can that be what I want for my club. This is the mighty Everton, founder league members and founders of the Premier Club.

How far have we fallen, how much damage has the much promised and lauded billionaire done to us by first Bill Kenwright and then Moshiri?

If 777 somehow get the green light then it will be on Moshiri and the PL and all it does is kick all of the above down the road a little and the pain and utter humiliation we feel as Everton fans will be extended.

I hope beyond hope that somebody chooses to forego the cost and the risk of sanctions and save our club and what reputation we have left before this happens but I’m really struggling to justify that hope.

All of this coming in a period when I will be asked to pay for my next season tickets. If the club had any moral fibre left, it should delay or put off that decision or offer a full refund if we can’t navigate the sanctions successfully (whether we stay up or go down). They put us in this position, we’ve done our utmost to standby them and I along with 31,000 others and the waiting list people deserve a little respect and time to make that decision.

    Regards

    Keith

  2. A freezing cold night at Goodison. I’m of the opinion that they should televise all matches so people who can’t attend have the option. Didn’t they have that a while back where you could select which match you wanted to watch and flick between them?

Gomes’ goal was outstanding. As I’ve commented, I’m really pleased for him as he’s had a tough time since that awful injury. Virginia was outstanding but in fairness their keeper had a good game too and denied both Dobbin at close range and a Calvert-Lewin shot that was heading in.

I called it at time but apparently it was 5 substitutions in 5 minutes. Half of the outfield team! I respect Roy Hodgson. Unlike a lot of English coaches, he earned his reputation and respect by going to Europe for several years. I didn’t realise he was a native of Croydon, so Palace will be his local club.

But maybe it’s time for him to hang up his tracksuit and enjoy his retirement. He certainly doesn’t deserve the abuse.

I wouldn’t say we are fickle, just a combination of opinionated and right now, frustrated. But united behind the team and the manager. There is a siege mentality around Goodison and the away sections of the stadiums around the country.

Supporters always tend to pick targets. Remember Osman and Hibbert?

I am frustrated by PSR and it’s UEFA counterpart FFP. Initially it sounded like a good idea to make the game fairer. But it has just solidified those at the top and made it near impossible for aspiring clubs with ambition to invest and break the glass ceiling.

The Premier League is self-regulating and not properly held to account. I’ve been a critic very much since the onset of the Sky drive Premier League era. A self licking ice cream. A void in governance and leadership. I doubt those in the grey suits are actually football people.

By his own admission, Masters admitted the rules aren’t fit for purpose and they will change them in the summer. So how can they further punish Everton and Nottingham Forest if they have acknowledged that?

No excuses for the mismanagement of the club, but why shouldn’t a business be allowed to speculate to accumulate?

We get a lot of banter of supporters of other clubs at the match, but when I speak to most of them in the pub or on my travels, they are supportive of us and sense the injustice.

  3. Hi Paul, I’m really surprised that Everton breached PSR again in the rolling period up to season 22/23, primarily because the 18/19 season (where we made significant losses of £112m) dropped out of the PSR calculations. 22/23 accounts were forecast to be slightly worse than 21/22 accounts losses of £44.7m, therefore the chances of another breach would surely go down dramatically. I understand the added complication of ‘add backs’ but surely there weren’t many in the 18/19 accounts (pre covid, pre stadium) and most of them remain in the current PSR accounts. How do you think we breached again?

  4. Another excellent yet depressing podcast. The decades long mismanagement of the Everton FC business, the stench of Usmanov and the sheer incompetence of Moshiri will kill the club. I am unable to see any way out. The season of miracles is gone. It’s beyond sad.
