  1. it’s remarkable that no premier league club has had any financial problems until Everton in the last couple of years – remarkable! Throw in Forest as a piecemeal case to highlight the pl’s concern, thereby deflecting any claim of corruption by them, and viola – they have a case.

This whole scenario stinks to heaven. And Everton are part of the smell. There’s so much more I could say regarding the ‘big picture’ and how professional sport is being weaponised in so many facets. But I am reminded of this George Carlin comment ….

There’s little evidence that fans can actually see, never mind get angry about, what is actually going on … the powers that be are in no way interested in what fans think or feel … fans are collateral damage in sports destruction …

  2. Thanks as always for the listen gents. Hopefully one day I can help contribute, although I’m probably not as eloquent as you guys.

I only lived off the stories of the School of Science and tales from my elders about Young, Harvey, Kendall, Ball and also Kaye however his unfortunate short lived his career with us was. Also Labone and the Angel Gabriel. Joe Royle too.

I first went to Goodison in 1976 aged 5 going on 6. It wasn’t a great period, but we had highlights like Bob Latchford and Duncan McKenzie. Plus, Andy King to give us that stunner to get the first win against them that I remember. That iconic green banner.

Then came the second coming. Southall, Reid, Sheedy and Trevor Steven. Titles and a European trophy. Happy teenage years for me watching those teams.

It wasn’t great on Saturday from where I was sat watching from the Main Stand, but I would say not the grimmest I’ve seen over the years. There were some pretty dire performances in the 1990s and into the 2000s. Embarrassment against Oldham, Tranmere and Shrewsbury. Surrender against Wigan.

There have been worse times. Let’s not forget the dark winter of 1983. A crowd of 13,000 against Coventry for a 0-0 draw and Kendall must go chants as leaflets were handed out. This is not the worse I’ve seen, which says something about how we’ve been managed over the recent decades.

More recently the dismal showings against Brentford and Norwich under Benitez.

It wasn’t great watching from the heavens at St James’ Park for the first hour. But we got 4 points from the last two games that could end up being key. I don’t care how we get them right now.

I’m not being too harsh on the team. We know they’re not the best, but without the points deductions, which are not the manager’s or teams’ fault, we’d be comfortable. As a purist, it’s not pretty, but it’s what we’ve got to work with.

Back to the Burnley match. I agree on Gomes. He is one of the few players we have who can be comfortable on the ball and not panic. Jordan has saved us and is a great shot-stopper, but I sometimes wonder if he should have been a Rugby player the way he punts it often into touch or sometimes straight to the opposition keeper.

Independent Commission? It seems self-appointed and is influenced by the Premier League from what I read, without having any type of inside knowledge.

Does the fact we have made steps by selling players count? I’m not denying we broke rules. But we have taken steps and continue to do so.

Increasingly as I watch the media, not just Everton sites, the Premier League’s credibility is coming into increasing scrutiny. I won’t be long. Those grey suits should be feeing hot under the collar.

Totally different atmosphere away than at Goodison. Newcastle in the gods was great. Onto the Fulham Road next Monday. Still points to play for. We can still do this.
