Talking the Blues Podcast, Tottenham (h), Moyes, Corners, VAR & more

Welcome to this week’s Talking the Blues podcast with George and Andy Costigan. Where to start? Spurs at home, the changes Moyes has brought, a Moyes love in (Paul, not George and Andy) and then from a wider game perspective corners, VAR and much more.

As ever thanks for listening – or reading, the written transcript will be available tomorrow

  1. Hi All, I hope you and yours are are well?

A very welcome three points yesterday, and hopefully, the improvements will be consistent and progressive as the season goes on.

However, may I say that I enjoyed your very interesting debate on this podcast fellas, especially about the rules and the state of the game.

I wholeheartedly agree that the ‘fifth parameter’ regards dead-ball situations needs to be introduced for VAR involvement.

The only other change I’d like to see, is the clock being stopped, whenever the ball is out of play or stationary. I.e. if the ball goes out of play, a free kick is given, or when a player ‘is injured’ (sic!) then the clock does not restart until, somebodies foot propel the ball again; or, in the case of a throw-in, once the ball has left the players hands who is throwing it in.

Regards getting Sir Alex Ferguson in to talk about these issues, personally, I’d rather you’d select another contributor, because in my mind, it was Ferguson who started the referee intimidation, and telling his players to get any advantage, nor do I condone any human being allowing the sort of behaviour that Roy Keane meted out to Haaland senior, without some sort of punishment!

If I may, I’ve inserted an Ange Postecoglou post-match presser after the RS vs Spurs Cup game.

If you scamper along to 3:44 and listen till 8:30, I feel that he is supporting what you’re actually getting at. N.B. The ‘announcement’ Ange was referring to was the decision to explain VAR decision in the stadium to the fans for certain games.

    Many thanks and good wishes,

    Simon H

  2. A good discussion again Paul, George, Andy,

Who’d of also thought a Talking the Blues episode would begin with Simply Red! Strange times all round.

A completely different Everton and certainly credit where credit it is due, I have a clean spoon and my humble pie is egg washed and ready for the oven but I’m not quite ready to eat at this point. You correctly describe a transformation but I would argue other, even more progressive managers would have had the same affect upon the team with a longer term continuity in mind, although your comments about Moyes having time/ effort to plan ahead is very valid. Good to hear you so uplifted though regardless.

I would agree with Simon in regard to Sir Alex to a large extent Andy, he was an instigator of tactics have been taken up by Mourinho and perfected by Trump. The ends shouldn’t always justify the means.

Paul, I appreciate you are very busy, but would be very grateful if you could pass on any contact details the club have regarding a Goodison Park auction, gaining revenue for EiTC etc. Not imagining my two penneth will add much but after years I feel an optimism about contacting my club.

    All the best,
    Ross
