Corrections

The Esk corrects errors of fact promptly, openly and on the article itself. Analysis that names individuals and companies has to be right, and when it is not, readers are entitled to know what changed and when.

How to report an error

Email paul@theesk.org with the article’s link, the passage concerned and, where possible, the document that shows the correct position. Reports are acknowledged within five working days.

What happens next

  • Errors of fact, a wrong figure, date, name or attribution, are corrected in the text. A dated note at the top of the article states what was wrong and what it now says.
  • Material errors, where the correction changes a finding, are also listed in the log below.
  • Updates, where new information has become available since publication (for example, newly filed accounts), are marked “Updated” with the date and a one-line note. They are not corrections, and are not logged unless they change a finding.
  • Matters of opinion or analysis are not corrected, but a substantive disagreement from a named party may be added as a response, where it is fair to do so.

Articles are not silently altered and are not removed to avoid correction. Where legal considerations require an article to be amended or withdrawn, a note says so.
