Independence & funding

The Esk is independent: it carries no advertising, takes no sponsorship and has no paywall, and nobody pays for coverage. It is written and funded by Paul Quinn through CWTE.

How The Esk is funded

The costs of research, hosting and the podcasts are met by CWTE. CWTE’s income comes from advisory and consultancy work for investors, professional firms and media organisations. The Esk does not accept advertising, sponsored content, affiliate links or paid placement, and all of its analysis is free to read.

How advisory work is kept separate

  • No client, past or present, is given sight of an article before publication or any say over what is published.
  • Advisory work does not buy coverage, and does not buy silence.
  • Where The Esk writes about an organisation that is, or has been within the past two years, a client, the article says so.
  • Confidential information received in advisory work is never used in published analysis.

Disclosure of interests

Any interest a reader might reasonably think relevant is disclosed in the article concerned.

Guest contributors

Guest contributors are asked to declare any interest relevant to their article, and their declaration is printed with it.
