Welcome to this week’s Talking the Blues podcast as we mull over another week of rumour, intrigue and strong responses as Rafa Benitez becomes the media’s favourite to take the position of Everton manager.
We also celebrate the birthday of one of our greats, Peter Reid
We look at the possible logic of the appointment, the process to date and question the media strategy to date. Finally, George gives some very interesting views on how to improve the game, scoring more goals.
As ever plenty of passion, a bit of fun, but a lot of serious stuff to chew over. Thanks for listening

Enjoy the cast – Quick point . Christophe Galtier does speak reasonable english. He was an assistant to Allan Perrin at Portsmouth for a year, so he has some direct knowlege of the english game and he was mooted in the french press as the leading candidate to take over PSG should Pochetino leave.
He is very highly rated in the european press, after rescuing Sainte Etienne and taking Lille above PSG to win the league with a squad that looked destined to be relegated when he took them on, PSG supporters are very keen not to have to face him, if he takes over at Nice, which is probably his likely next destination.
The major drawback to him being better seen as a suitable candidate for Everton is that french managers (Wenger apart) have not done well in england historically ..(Remi Garde ,Houlier etc) and are not seen as a natural fit for the english game, Galtier however does favour a 442 attacking team built on young motivated players and has a history of working well hand in hand with a DOF, he is basically a talented motivator and coach rather than a chequebook manager.
his Lille team was constructed with 66m euros (or about a third of what PSG paid for Neymar).
