Talking the Blues Podcast, Chelsea (a), and the 777 Partner “extension”

Welcome to this week’s Talking the Blues Podcast with George and Andy Costigan.

We look back on Monday evening’s debacle at Stamford Bridge before reflecting on the news that Moshiri and MSP Sports Capital have granted 777 Partners even more time to complete their financing.

As ever thanks for listening –  or reading, the transcript will be released on Tuesday.

  1. It is impossible not to have very considerable concerns about 777, but the reality is that without their financial input for basically the whole of this season we would have almost certainly gone into administration and effectively now have been relegated and the stadium build would have ground to a shuddering halt many months ago.

Their financial input has surely been a preferable alternative to that scenario?

Given their already very large financial input I would not be surprised if 777 do find some way of securing the necessary finance to complete their acquisition of the Club ( can they afford not to do so?) and I guess we’ll all then quickly find out what they are really all about.

If you are right and 777 cannot come up with the money required then a fire sale of pretty much all saleable playing assets to stave off administration at least in the short term and try to comply with PSR , or at least minimise the extent of the next breach, is highly likely.

This would cover debt repayments and running costs for a while and I guess at that point Moshiri would have to consider urgently offers from any other interested parties.

Such interested parties if they genuinely exist are probably very much of the “vulture” variety, with no more financial resources or more virtuous motivations than 777.

It’s difficult to see any positive way out of this mess.

If there is one it will come after completion of the stadium….which may then attract a better calibre of potential buyer . By the end of June it should be about 85% complete and I would hope that some means of funding its completion would emerge given its importance to the regeneration of north Liverpool even if Everton are unable to secure the funds themselves.

To conclude on a different note one of the most infuriating aspects of all this is the continued failure of the current owner or those currently running our Club to publicly acknowledge and apologise to the fans for their failure to ensure we were compliant with PSR; the resulting points deductions have clearly impacted the morale of fans and players and made the prospects of relegation far more likely than it would otherwise have been.

Whilst the legitimacy of points deductions and the inconsistency of the rulings made can be justifiably challenged , our idiotic and incompetent hierarchy should never have put the Club in this position in the first place.

Whilst the FAB and Fans Forum can be praised for the submission of fan impact statements to the PL Appeal Boards ( acknowledged but essentially dismissed) they have failed to challenge the Club on its own failings on PSR or to demand an apology to the fans, instead towing the “let’s all stick together” line promulgated by our very under qualified and not very interim acting CEO.

I find myself alternating between anger and depression over all of this.

Supporting Everton should come with a health warning!!

  2. A horrible night at Stamford Bridge. I went home feeling wounded and hurt.

    Thanks for the listen.

I don’t know what is going on with the take over but something needs to happen.

I liked the reference to young Warrington. I watched him quite a bit. He has a great range of passing. Roll the dice with him.

I have my ticket for the Forest match so in we go again.

    Bella Ciao
