A cash fine won’t punish the owners but relegation for a few years certainly would. It’s no use relegating them for 12 months; it needs to be for a few years so the wage bill becomes unsustainable and players want to leave.
As I understand it a PL club can’t be relegated to Leagues 1 or 2 so a points deduction would have to be enough so that on promotion back to the PL the balance of deducted points would be applied, resulting in another relegation.
Will the City fans suffer? Undoubtedly, just as Everton and Forest fans did but the City success was enabled by a giant fraud.
Just on the point of fans suffering; when the Sly 6 were fined a derisory amount for undermining the PL, the reasoning was that a points deduction would punish the fans. That reasoning went out of the window when it came to us and Forest!
What a wonderful solution to the alleged financial cheating problem – sad that it will NOT happen (de-licensing the owners)
Can you image the political uproar there would be – sorry, no-one in football or politics has the balls to do such a thing, so we’ll end up with a points deduction and the practice will continue to the slow demise of our beautiful game.
