Talking the Blues Podcast, Bournemouth (h), Dyche, the alternatives, ownership, Moshiri & Textor

Welcome to this week’s Talking the Blues Podcast with Andy and George Costigan (back, refreshed) and myself. We try to make sense of the Bournemouth game at the weekend before turning our attention to Sean Dyche, what the alternatives might be and if the manager position affects our ownership situation. We end with an update on Moshiri and John Textor’s attempts to purchase his shareholding.

The Talking the Blues Podcast is available, as always, free of charge and advertising on all major podcast platforms, links to which can be found here

  1. Re 47 mins on – I met Kevin Thelwell briefly before the match Saturday – without a prompt from me and I WISH I had pressed it – Kevin said ‘we have to get a result here today’ – I agreed and asked why is Dyche on thin ice if he doesnt, but my lad and Kev were already moved on in the convo so I didnt press it… I don’t think that there is anyone at Everton able to make a decision like this one currently and it is going to kill Everton this season ( as in the difference between haveing a nothing to worry about season to haviing EVERYTHING to worry about)

  2. Yet another Paul commenting haha!
Pretty much nailed everything I was thinking about on the podcast today. Thanks. I am with George in that I would like to see a brave choice as coach/manager, one with a defined style and project ( a word I hate!) The guy Thomas Frank at Brentford is a good example. Going back to Moyes is not the answer as much as I like the guy. Unfortunately I do not see Dyche moving anywhere for some time 🙁

  3. Thanks Paul, another entertaining but (inevitably) depressing episode. I was wondering about the discussion on the potential sale to any purchaser. Would Textor, or anybody else, be able to say that they would pay £xM but part of the payment would only be withheld until Premiership survival was guaranteed? That might provide the incentive to appoint a new manager.

Anyway, keep up the good work with Andy and George!

  4. Utterly baffling!
I agree with virtually everything that’s been discussed here.
Paul, I don’t think Dyche did shut up shop with those subs. Garner, Young and O’Brien might have been a real option to shut up shop. Dacoure & Beto didn’t represent his intentions to shut anything up.
It was said by Sky’s team that B’mouth subs were made on 60 mins and then again on 70+ mins. EFC were still in the ascendancy at that stage but we could all see how Tim, Seamus, Mc’Neil were failing and failing quickly. DCL & N’Diaye were not! We had players available on the bench that could have replaced all of those tired lads. We were caught in a malaise, rabbits in headlights, looking at each other before looking in a mirror. SD “smelling it” and not responding to it was disgraceful.

For me, with Moyes leaving WH, Dyche is the very last of a dying breed in the PL and he’s getting called out by younger, far more dynamic, proactive coaches and managers that are prepared to risk losing 4–0 for the chance of winning 3-2.

If we had the finances, I’d strike a deal with SD to offset his compensation until after June 2025, and I’d go find a new manager right now. There are plenty of options without dragging up all of the old names. I do trust KT to do his job and find the most appropriate replacement. KT MUST have been briefed to do the research by now.

I also believe that squad (when fit), is more than capable of securing a decent finish under the right coaching and management. I don’t think SD is that man.

I’m sick to death of Everton breaking new 🤬 records, I’m sick of those stats SD has and I’m sick of being bent over by clubs like B’mouth, CP and a most of others that love coming to GP these days. They should have the fear of God in them.

Moyes might be a temporary solution for all of the reasons you say Paul but for me, would he accept a short term deal?

I have no idea where this season is going but I am sure the only rationale Moshiri is applying is one that maintains EFC in the PL until EFC is sold. If he thinks an average of 42 points over a career is enough then SD stays. He won’t push the button until EFC’s status is in real AND present danger. Unless of course, a new owner comes in by Christmas. If we go down there is no chance in hell that Moshiri gets anything at all out of his tenure at EFC, and he doesn’t deserve to!

    Regards

    Keith
