Independent analysis of football's money, owners and rules

The Football Capital Tracker

A dated record of what the capital providers behind football are doing, and why it matters for the clubs, leagues and regulators exposed to them. Each entry records one event, its football exposure, why it matters and the questions it leaves open, with sources. Longer analysis is linked where we has published it.

What is included

An event is included if it involves a private equity, private credit, insurance-backed or sovereign-linked capital provider that has, or recently had, lending or ownership exposure to a football club or its holding companies. Events are classified as one of: lending or refinancing; equity or ownership stake; manager stake or M&A; fund raise; distress or enforcement; litigation or regulatory.

Standards

Entries are drawn from public filings, company announcements, court records and named reporting. Where an event touches an investigation, the entry states whether charges have been brought and gives the subject’s position. Entries carry a “last updated” date and are revised as events develop; see our methodology and corrections policy.
